Day 3: EAA Airventure in Oshkosh, WI. Planes of all types, oh my!

Day 3 is well underway here at EAA Airventure and we hope to see all of you at Booth A-1050!

With the booth display well established and six orders on the scoreboard so far we had a little more free time to wander the show & see the sights today.

I took advantage of the opportunity to make my first visit of the show to AirVenture Central, the large ramp / gathering area that serves as the focal point for the festivities.  My stroll was rewarded with the opportunity to get up close and personal with a number of very rare and exotic aircraft.

Where else in the world can you see a B-17 Flying Fortress, a B-24 Liberator, an authentic Mitsubishi A6M Zero (all of the above from WWII), plus a DeHavilland Fairey Gannett photo 4

and a V22 Osprey Tiltrotor – and those are just the aircraft that I could identify on sight!  Quite a few other examples were so rare or obscure that I will have to try and identify them via Google!

After a stint of booth duty to meet & greet current and future Customers, an afternoon stroll to the “Classics” section of the field yielded numerous examples of fully restored, flying works of art from aviations Golden Age.  From a very rare Spartan Executive (every square inch hand polished to yield a blinding shine) to a one-of –a-kind 1929 Fairchild photo 3-3

– a six passenger airliner of that era with folding wings!

To top off the day, I stuck around for one of my personal favorite activities – the night airshow: a series of precision formation and solo aerobatic demonstration accompanied  by awesome pyrotechnics attached to and launched from the wings of the performers.

It all made for a very long but very satisfying day!

Below are some pictures of our banner on the Mooney Caravan tent.

Day 1: EAA Airventure in Oshkosh, WI. Have you gotten your $4,000 T-Shirt?

Well today, Monday, marked the official beginning of the festivities out here at EAA Airventure in Oshkosh, WI but the PFS team and many others have already been not only busy at work prepping, but also having a little fun.

Last night, we joined fellow aviation enthusiast for some delicious BBQ. Below is at a picture of the line-up of Cardinal RG’s in the Cessna’s to OSH camp.  Of the 11 RG’s in the row, 10 of them are equipped w/ the PFS. The 11th has  turbo-charged engine with which our system is not compatible. The second picture shows esteemed, repeat PFS Customer, Berry Gamblin of VA. Berry has our system installed on BOTH of his airplanes: a drop dead gorgeous 172 and his recently acquired Cessna 177 RG.  The PFS was one of the first upgrades Berry did to his RG after purchasing it earlier this year.

Dynamic Propeller Balance

To get the conversation started, I’m pleased to present my thoughts on one of the most often overlooked, least expensive and most beneficial things you can do for your airplane: a Dynamic Propeller Balance.

We believe in this preventative maintenance procedure so strongly that we offer to double the warranty period (from 12 months to 24 months) for any PFS Customer who gets their propeller “dynamically” (that means balanced while the prop is ON the airplane WITH the engine running) within 25 flight hours (before or after) of the Power Flow installation.

BUT having it done regularly is a GREAT idea for ANY airplane – whether or not it has a Power Flow System installed.

I’ve had many Customers who have recently purchased a new propeller (or had their current one overhauled) tell me that the manufacturer or prop shop balanced the propeller before shipping it to them and that their engine is nice and smooth, so they don’t see the benefit in having the prop dynamically balanced.

My response is always the same: I am sure that you were shipped an expertly made and finely balanced propeller. Once it is installed on your airplane, though, all bets are off! It’s the difference between the old bubble machines they used to use for pre-balancing your car tires and the new computerized systems that spin balance the tires to within a couple of hundredths of a degree.

A dynamic propeller balance essentially spin balances the propeller on your airplane and eliminates about 99.95% of the vibration resulting from any unbalanced components of the entire power-plant. It is important to note that the most damaging vibrations are at frequencies that humans cannot feel, so even if your engine seems smooth, there is a good chance that component damaging vibration IS occurring. The ONLY way to eliminate that vibration is by having the propeller dynamically balanced ON the airplane, WITH the engine running.

Having the entire test performed and the correcting weights applies (usually in the form of washers installed under the prop bolts) typically takes only a couple of hours and costs about $225.00. In light of the fact that the procedure will greatly increase the life span and the reliability of EVERY component that is bolted to your engine (not just the Power Flow System), it is one of the cheapest and most cost-effective forms of insurance you can buy.

Several of those same doubting-Thomas’s have called me up after having the procedure done on their airplane to tell me they couldn’t believe the difference it made in the vibration level inside the cockpit and throughout the airframe.

In it with both feet!

It’s not often you have the opportunity to get in at the start of something Grand, but this time you’re in the Right Place at the Right Time:

WELCOME! to Power Flow’s uniquely informative and (we hope) highly entertaining blog post!

Not familiar with what we do? Check out this video!

Being the bunch of technological dinosaurs that we are (or at least I am), it took us awhile to see the benefits of this new “Social Media” stuff, but now that we’re in it – we’re in it with both feet!

So, to start out, we’d like to make it clear that this venue is intended to be for the benefit of anyone who is interested in General Aviation as a whole and who would like to know how to get the most performance and efficiency out of any GA airframe whether Power Flow equipped or not. We will periodically be sharing gems of knowledge gleaned from the mountains of information we have amassed during our more than fifteen years in the GA industry.  If there is a topic you have always wondered about or a question that has been bothering you, regarding any facet of GA airframes or engines, the odds are that one of us will be able to shed some meaningful light on the subject for you.

Feel free to contact us at anytime.  We look forward to your questions, comments and input. Click here to connect with us.
